Evan Whitelaw

Head of Global Investigations, Global Security & Resilience Services

Evan WhitelawEvan is the Head of Google's Global Investigations team. Joining the company as Google's first Global Investigator in the Asia Pacific region five years ago, Evan went on to build Global Investigation's APAC team before stepping up to lead the global team. Throughout all of this Evan has somehow managed to fend off demands and entreaties to relocate to Singapore and the United States, a strategy he has come to question since enduring Melbourne's extensive COVID lockdowns. The Global Investigations team is responsible for conducting a diverse range of security related investigations and for advising the business on hardening processes and workflows against fraud and remediating identified security vulnerabilities.

Prior to his roles at Google, Evan spent 16 years with Victoria Police, much of that time as a Detective, serving in both the Major Drug Investigation Division and a suburban Crime Investigation Unit before taking promotion to Sergeant in which role he was part of a team administering the Interpose intelligence database. In 2013 Evan left Victoria Police to join the newly conceived Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) as a Principal Investigator where he served for 3 years leading a number of investigations involving public sector corruption.

Whilst he has pursued a career as an investigator, Evan has always felt as if he is an Intelligence Analyst trapped in a Detective's body and he finds significant satisfaction in wasting many hours tinkering with a good Analyst's Notebook chart when he really has more pressing work to attend to.
